Angel mommies said goodbye way too soon,
So be careful not to dismiss or minimize their motherhood simply because you don’t see their child playing in their rooms;
Preemie mommies are thrust into a world full of scary unknowns,
So their confidence might be knocked down from a ten to barely a one,
Special needs mommies constantly fret,
That their child won’t fit in because the chips stacked against them seem to have already been set.
All of these moms have/have had the same hopes and dreams for their child;
Some of these dreams were dashed long ago while others had to be modified,
Many of them are not just one kind of special mommy, but two and sometimes, all three;
As preemie, angel and special needs motherhood seem to come from the same parenting family tree.
These special moms have come to motherhood via a myriad of unimaginable situations and experiences;
But in many ways are more alike despite their differences.
You see, angel, preemie and special needs moms are like a patchwork quilt;
Made up of lots of different colors, shapes, textures and designs,
Yet when brought/sewn together, the connections are immediate and can feel like it’s from the Divine.
They don’t need to speak much, they just know from the start,
That their patchwork of motherhood is deeply rooted and forever intertwined in their hearts.
So, on this Mother’s Day, if you know of an angel, preemie or special needs mom;
Take an extra moment to give them a hug to let them know they’re being thought of or lend them a helping hand,
And when they’re feeling low and like they just can’t take another step forward….gently remind them that they CAN!
Happy Mother’s Day to the most incredible mommies on this earth!
